What Should You Prepare Before Contacting Us (or any video production company)?
Some clients are ready to dive into the video production process, but they have done little or no preparation. They come to us with only with an understanding that video will help them achieve their goals and a desire to get started right away. That's great!
Some clients know exactly what they want. They have either used video before or have seen how other businesses have used it and want to do something similar. They may already have a concept and just need help executing their vision. That's great too!
Most of our clients are somewhere in-between. They have seen videos that they like and know how they want to integrate video into their marketing strategy. However, they're unsure of how to best tell their story and have no idea where to begin with the production process. This is also a great place to start.
What You Should Bring to the Table
There is nothing that you NEED to prepare before contacting us - we are more than happy to help you through the entire process. However, if you already have some ideas in mind or are on a tight schedule, here are some things that will streamline the process:
Description of your company and its culture.
What would you say your company does? How do you set yourselves apart from the competition? Why would a customer choose you over someone else? How would you describe the culture within the company? Do you have any slogans, sayings, mascots, etc. that are important for us to know about?
The answers to these questions will help us better understand your company and how you view yourselves. As we work with you to find your story, this will be a very important piece to the puzzle.
What are your goals with this video or series?
Are you trying to convert curiosity into customers? Do you need to re-energize donors? Are you growing and need to recruit additional top-end staff?
If you know your goals then you will also know how to measure the success of this project.
Who is your intended audience?
Is this an internal video designed for employee training or retention? Is it a product video targeted at teenagers? A political ad aimed at supporters of your opponent?
Knowing you audience will help us know how to most effectively tell your story.
How do you plan to distribute the video(s)?
If you plan to embed the video on the About Us page of your website, we need to be thinking about it differently than if you are wanting to buy 30 seconds of ad time during the Super Bowl. This ties in closely with who your intended audience is.
Have you created videos in the past?
If so, what did you like or dislike about them?
If you made a series of videos in the past that you thought were good at the time but now can't stand, that would be great for us to know about. Or if you have made videos that you really like but they just need to be updated, knowing this will be a huge help to us as well.
Are there any videos you have seen that you like?
How would you describe them? What did you like about them? Can you provide us with a link?
If you have videos that you know you like, this is a fantastic thing for us to discuss in the early stages. Maybe you like the emotional connection you feel to the subjects in the story, or maybe it's the pace of the editing, or maybe it's just the style of music. You may not even be able to fully articulate what you like about a certain video, but you know that you really like it. Let us know about this so that we can better understand your tastes!
Thinking through these questions and writing down any thoughts will help us better understand your needs and desires and to get on the same page early in the process. It will save you time, reduce your stress, and help the project run much smoother.
As we sit down to work on the concept and script for your project we can refer back to all of this information and make sure that we are telling your story in the best way possible.
If you're ready to take the plunge, please contact us right away. We're ready to jump in with you!
